BayOne Urethane Systems Awarded Key Recognition in Filter Industry
Donaldson Filtration Systems Names BayOne Urethanes a Strategic Supplier of Polyurethane Systems. Show
St. Louis, November 17, 2009 - For the third consecutive year, BayOne Urethane Systems, LLC, has received a Donaldson Buys Value Strategic Supplier Award from The Donaldson Company, Inc. a global supplier of filter products for a broad range of industries. The honor gives BayOne preferential consideration in product sourcing and designates BayOne as a Donaldson partner.
BayOne supplies Donaldson with polyurethane potting adhesives and moldable systems used to hold filter products together. Specifically, Donaldson uses BayOne's polyurethane systems in heavy duty air filtration for construction equipment and tractor trailers, as well as liquid filtration in the same equipment.
"The Donaldson Buys Value Strategic Supplier Award is a reflection of our strong commitment to the filter industry," said Fernando D'Andrea, general manager, BayOne Urethane Systems. "We look forward to continuing our long-standing relationship with Donaldson to provide quality, cost-effective filters to Donaldson's customers."
In announcing the award, Donaldson characterized the objective of the program as helping them exceed customer expectations by "maximizing the value of purchased parts and materials, and by identifying and working with suppliers who consistently and reliably perform at or above Donaldson's expectations." Strategic Suppliers have preferential status over other suppliers utilized by Donaldson.
Donaldson awards Strategic Supplier status through a measurement system that awards points based on a combination of quality, service and total cost.
- Quality - evaluates the amount of defects (ppm), percent of shipments accepted and looks for continuous improvement
- Service - evaluates on-time shipping, service support and continuous improvement
- Cost - considers pricing and supply chain cost reduction
"We work hard to provide custom solutions that meet customer needs with regards to performance and technology," added D'Andrea. "Working with Donaldson's technical and commercial teams, we're able to identify areas to improve and ultimately provide the best solution for the customer."
Strategic Suppliers meet with a Donaldson Strategic Supply Management Team annually to review performance and set improvement objectives for the next year.

New foam meets flame retardant specifications and extends molders' product horizons
Baydur® 1009 rigid polyurethane foam is set to help molders of foam composite boards expand the use of their products in the construction and mass transit markets—areas where the stringent ASTM E84 Class 1 flame retardant specifications must be met. Show
A new high-density rigid polyurethane foam that meets flame retardant specifications and helps extend opportunities for new applications by molders has been launched by BayOne Urethane Systems.
Baydur® 1009 is a high-density rigid polyurethane foam that meets ASTM E84 Class 1 requirements. When molded to a density of 20 pcf, foam boards made with Baydur® 1009 rigid polyurethane foam pass the E84 Class 1 requirements.
The product was developed primarily for molders of fiber reinforced structural foam boards. However, it would work equally well for molders of architectural rigid foam parts where flame retardant properties are critical. Meeting the ASTM E84 Class 1 requirement potentially opens up new applications in the construction and mass transit markets, as well. Material is available for customer evaluations.
"The development of this system proved a real challenge for BayOne's technical team," said Mark Vanover, marketing manager, BayOne Urethane Systems LLC. Vanover explains that the higher desired density of 20 pcf translated into more fuel in the E84 burn test, creating technical hurdles as far as retarding smoke generation and flame spread characteristics. "But through our extensive technical expertise, we were able to overcome this challenge, resulting in a novel product that has utility beyond its original application."

BayOne Urethane Systems LLC responds to customer needs with new low-density, high-resiliency moldable flexible foam
Use of Bayfit® 500 foam, which is ideal for transportation, marine, medical and office furniture applications, may help OEMs reduce material costs. Show
St. Louis–BayOne Urethane Systems LLC announces the introduction of Bayfit® 500 Low-Density High-Resiliency Moldable Flexible Foam. This innovative foam product can be molded over a wide range of hardnesses while achieving a molded density of 2.7 pounds per cubic foot (pcf). In contrast, standard HR flex foams in the marketplace yield molded densities of 3.1 to 3.8 pcf.
Developed primarily for use in seating/cushioning applications, the lower densities that are achievable with Bayfit® 500 foam make it possible to produce end products that are lighter and require less material, resulting in up to a 15 to 20 percent reduction in material consumption. Depending on the application, there may be additional advantages as well. For example, use of Bayfit® 500 foam for transportation seating can reduce vehicle weight which, in turn, can boost fuel efficiency.
Two-component Bayfit® 500 flexible foam is 100 percent water-blown and is formulated with 100 percent diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI). Its properties are comparable to standard MDI-based HR flex foam products.
"We developed this product in response to customer interest in molding lighter weight parts," explains Mark Vanover, marketing manager, BayOne Urethane Systems LLC, who notes that the excellent flow properties of Bayfit® 500 foam enable it to consistently reach 2.7 pcf. "We believe our introduction of Bayfit® 500 foam is indicative of BayOne's focus on developing custom formulations that meet the needs and challenges of the marketplace."
Bayfit® 500 foam, which is now commercially available, meets California (CAL) 117 fire code standards for flammability. It was formulated for use in markets such as office furniture, recreational/industrial seating, and transportation.
